Bears.
Every year it is always a pleasure to see the look of surprise and awe when people are introduced to the wonders of the Alaskan wilderness of Katmai National Park and Preserve, or the stark beauty that is Churchill, Manitoba in Canada. I have been fortunate to guide many people in numerous adventures with both the Alaska brown bear (grizzly) and Canada's Churchill polar bears.
It is through my overwhelming appreciation of the complexity and richness of bear habitat, and observations of family bonds, dominance struggles among males, and almost human-like communications, that I faithfully and ethically reach out to those who do not understand the bear world and responsible behavior when in the wilds, to keep these magnificent creatures safe from human predators who might unwittingly place both themselves and the bears at risk.
